Data Science Portfolio

What does data science look like in action? Explore my 2018 data science bootcamp projects below.

Please note that these projects are reflective of my earliest starting point as a data scientist, not my current skillset.
Most work since then has been for private companies and cannot be shared here.

Letters From Grandma

June 2018 (In Revision)

I created a unique dataset by transcribing several hundred letters written by my late grandmother, Elizabeth Jones, from 1941 to 1970. This project used natural language processing, data visualization, and clustering and classification algorithms to derive meaning from an unstructured dataset.

Traffic Fatalities

May 2018

In support of Washington State’s “Target Zero” goal for road safety, I analyzed national traffic accident data to predict fatalities. This project used gradient-boosted decision trees and logistic regression to predict crash outcomes and shared results through Flask and Tableau interactive visualizations.

Mariners Playoff Drought

April 2018

Putting my frustration as a Mariners fan to good use, I accessed public data sources to explore my favorite team’s league-leading 16-year playoff drought. This project used web scraping and linear regression on a dataset dating back to 2002 that included game statistics, coaching tenure, and team payroll.

Subway Strategies

April 2018

For the first project of my Metis data science bootcamp, I worked with colleagues Jonathan Sterling and Prakash Verma to parse NYC subway turnstile data and build an outreach strategy for a fictional nonprofit client. This project used pandas, matplotlib, and Tableau.
